General Criteria for Swimming Lessons

INFANTS / TODDLERS

 

AGE

​9 Months - 3 years old

 

ABOUT

Parent / guardian will be in the water with the child during swimming lessons. There is one WSI as well as 1 or 2 WSIA's helping with the class. The goal of this class is to encourage and help your child become ​comfortable in the water.

PRESCHOOL CLASSES 

 

AGE

3 1/2 - 5 year old​

 

ABOUT

​

 Preschool Step 1 - Helps participants feel comfortable in the water and begin to develop fundamental skills such as breath control.

​

Preschool Step 2 - Builds on Step 1 and gives participants success with fundamental skills such as floating and basic locomotion.

​

Preschool Step 3 - Builds on Step 2 and improves participants' coordination of simultaneous arm and leg actions and alternating arm and legs actions.

LEVELS

 5 years and up

 

ABOUT

​

Level 1 - Introduction to Water Skills - This class is for students who are new to the water. They will learn to go under the water.

​

Level 2  - Fundamental Aquatics Skills - Students will learn how to float and kick on their backs and bellies. Students will learn how to swim independently after leaving how to float. The goal is by the end of the class to be able to do these tasks on their own. Begin rhythmic breathing.

​

Level 3  - Stroke Readiness - Develop confidence and endurance in various strokes. Rhythmic breathing will be refined.

​

Level 4 -  Stroke Development - Develop confidence and endurance in various strokes. Introduction to breaststroke and sidestroke.

​

Level 5 - Stroke Refinement - Endurance and demanding stroke coordination in freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke. Introduction to butterfly and surface dives.

​

Level 6 - Swimming & Skill Profiency - Endurance; must know all strokes: Fitness swimming, personal water safety and fundamentals of diving.

DIVING CLASS

​

Must be able to swim well in the deep end!

​

The class is designed to teach students how to dive properly using progressions.
